I am a…Member of the Body
“Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” 1 Corinthians 12:27 NIV
“For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, 15 by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, 16 and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility.” Ephesians 2:14-16 NIV
“Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.” Ephesians 2:19-20 NIV
We are not alone. I am reminded of this beautiful fact not only as I read His word, but on days where I spend time with my church and visit my family. I look about and soak up the reminder that we are all joined in some cases by flesh and blood relations, but on a more eternal level we are all as brothers and sisters in Christ joined as parts of a body. We all are connected in mission with ultimate purpose to serve God in Christ.
As members of the body we have separate parts to play, but are all essential to the health and effectiveness of the whole. It is true that God doesn’t need us to fulfill his mission, but if one hand doesn’t answer the call to service, another will sprout up in its place to do the Lord’s bidding.
Today let us decide that we will do our part as a member of the body. Let us each, in our own God given way, answer the call and fulfill our mission.
