I am…Less
“He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.” John 3:30 NLT
This statement of truth, seems to slap this truth in the face. However, this points back to our lives being less and less about us and more and more about Jesus. In Christ, we are recreated for good works.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10 NIV
A central piece of those works is proclaiming His greatness and glorifying the name of Jesus. In order for this to be done effectively we must see “ourselves” decreasing and Jesus as increasing. As our view of Jesus increases, it is not that we love ourselves less; it is not that we think very lowly of ourselves. In fact the less I see spoken of here is simply the place of ego. The desire to elevate oneself becomes less. In actuality, when our view of Jesus, the creator of all increases, in many respects our view of all of his handiwork increases.
When you recognize the greatness of Picasso, you do not then think less of the “Blue Nude.” His work becomes more valuable.
This is definitely a case of less is more.
In Christ, I AM LESS.
Mmmmm?…thought provoking and challenging.Thanks 🙂
