I am…a Fighter
“11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6:11-17 NIV
In Christ we are fighters. As I type this I recognize that this might read as a contradiction of sorts to the personality of the Jesus we read about in the Gospels. However, it is not meant in the standard sense of the word. We are not fighters in the flesh, but in the spiritual. We fight against powers of darkness in spiritual warfare. We battle on our knees whilst war wages on. We wear our armor, take a stand and stand our ground, not in earthly places but in the heavenlies. We stand as truth in the midst of lies. We stand as light in the midst of darkness.
In Jesus we stand as righteousness in the midst of evil.
Jesus was a man of peace, and so shall we be too. But he did not come to bring peace but to bring truth.
“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.” Matthew 10:34 NIV
As he wields a sword, so shall we: a sword of truth.
“Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” 1 Timothy 6:12 NIV
Today as lies abound, be found in the truth. As darkness pervades, bring forth a light. As the battle wages on, remember in Jesus…you ARE A FIGHTER!
