I am…United with Others.
“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 15:5-6
“How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!” Psalm 133:1
“Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.” Corinthians 12:12
Just as we are now united with Christ in his death, burial, and resurrection, we are also united with one another. We are tied to each other in faith and find kindred fellowship with one another as fellow workers in the mission of building the kingdom of God.
One of the best joys of being part of a thriving local church is the constant reminder that being in Christ is not a call to holy solitude, but a welcoming into a loving brother/sisterhood. As we live out the call to unity we glorify the Lord.
One of Jesus’ final prayers for us was for our unity.
“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” John 17:20-23 NIV
